In a separate study carried out by AXA it was shown that around fifty percent of youngsters aged between fifteen and seventeen are considering applying for a credit card when they reach the age of eighteen.

JK acquires Mexican firm

JK Tyre and Industries has acquired Mexican tyre manufacturer Tornel for Rs 270 crore. This is the first international acquisition by the Indian tyre major. Tornel has a turnover of $202 million and a daily capacity of 290 tonnes. Together with Tornel, JK Tyre will now have a turnover of over $1 billion, making it the largest Indian four wheeler manufacturer and putting it globally at the 14th place. The daily capacity of the company will also move up to 940 tonnes. Tornel will provide JK Tyre access to NAFTA and to the growing markets of South and Central America. "This is our first international acquisition," said Dr R.P. Singhania, chairman and managing director, of the company. "Economies of scale and technological expertise will propel the company into a higher level of growth," he added.

JK Tyre plans to provide managerial and technological input to Tornel to improve the latter’s functioning. Tornel owns three plants that employ 2,000 people. The company has a network of 241 distributors and 282 dealers across Mexico. JK Tyre had announced in April this year its intention to acquire a Mexican firm. The Rs 270 crore deal will be funded via a mix of debt and equity.
